Onassis Cultural Centre – Helmut Newton Exhibition

For those who love black and white pictures, starting  November 13th and until March 3rd 2013,

photographer’s Helmut Newton exhibition will be hosted at the Onassis Cultural Centre.

Although many of us consider his work as anachronistic and often repeatable he was considered  a leader in his time.

Trying to portray the beauty, the sensuality, the humor and the violence of  people’s behavior that he met in the world of fashion, luxury, money and power.

Elsa Peretti by Helmut Newton for Halston, 1975

I am not personally impressed from his staged nude photos, unfortunately his inspiration was limited to black underwear, heels and smoking, trying to transform all the women he photographed under the same vamp model.  In my contact with art, I have met photographers like my beloved Annie Leibovitz who charmed me more with the way she depicts the nude body, the world of fashion and luxury, with real sensuality and emotion. However I do like two or three very specific portraits of Newton, those of the unique Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Andy Warhol. It may of course be because of the power these great artists radiate, I do not know, but what I know is that I would certainly love to have these portraits in my studio.
